Canadian resorts in Alberta at full throttle! Jasper #marmotbasin #schoolskitrips

The snow started falling heavily in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 15 and did not let up until late afternoon the same day depositing 31 cm of fresh snow on the slopes. A whopping 65 cm has fallen at Marmot Basin in just 4 days.

“The snow could not have come at a better time”, said Rob Ellen, Marmot Basin’s mountain manager. “We opened on Saturday 14 November with good skiing on 6 runs in the lower mountain. On our second day of operation we got walloped by a huge snow blizzard and now we will get most of the mounta20140217-081543.jpgin open, and it is only November 16”, he added.

Last season Marmot Basin had some of, if not the very best snow conditions in all of North America. Early indications are looking good, and we are hoping for a repeat this season! The high base elevation and location in the northern Rockies gives us an advantage when it comes to getting consistently good snow conditions, even when temperatures are forecast to be warmer than normal, such as is the case during an El Nino year. We don’t get rain at our elevation, we get dry snow, perfect for powder skiing!
